GIMP Training Video – Tutorial

Here is a great multi-part GIMP Training Video that demystifies the software’s distinctive menus and setup and shows you how to use its powerful tools and features to come up with some impressive results.
Because GIMP is free, open-source software, it’s not difficult to find several free, open source tutorials around the web. But their quality can be spotty, they often leave out important steps and they usually only cover one or two tips a piece. This video based training series gives you a consistent, high-quality introduction to the program and a comprehensive walkthrough of its capabilities and tricks. Utilizing an engaging instructional video format, you get to see tasks performed in real-time, with expert guidance and advice from professional designer James Street.
You are free to pause, rewind, fast forward or repeat whole videos at any point, and when combined with included work files you’ll find that the whole system is geared so that you can learn hands-on at your own pace. Like GIMP itself, the training videos are playable on multiple operating systems, which allows you to watch from practically any computer. If you want to find out what you can accomplish with this community-developed software, the GIMP 2.6 Training Video is a great place to start.

Upgrades and Updates for GIMP 2.6

Just as when more commercial software products reach an upgrade or new phase of development, it’s exciting when free open-source software gets a needed round of fixes and innovation. GIMP 2.6 is a smart step in the right direction, with several improvements that will change the way users get work done:
User interface gets some help – The removal of the toolbox menubar and the ability to manage the toolbox and docks as utility windows removes some of the confusion new users often face and makes the program play a little bit more nicely with different operating systems.
Improved tools and features – The free select tool can now be used to highlight custom polygonal areas, and new settings for brush dynamics mean that users will have more options when using a peripheral stylus or drawing tool.
New Image Processing Engine – The GEGL framework will ultimately allow GIMP users to work in higher level bit depths and make changes to their images without committing them to the original file. The implementation of GEGL is not activated by default, and some of the functionality still needs to be worked out, but its inclusion in this release means the changes are in the pipe.
As GIMP becomes an even more powerful tool for image and photo work, it’s only a matter of time before it makes its way onto the computers of more working graphics professionals for more than just basic functions. As it stands already, the program can be used to create compelling content for home and the web, and these step by step training video lessons show you how. The right knowledge can open up your creative possibilities.

Digidesign Pro Tools 8 Training Video

Here is an effective Digidesign Pro Tools 8 Training Video suitable for anyone who is serious about breaking into professional audio production. Written and narrated by seasoned audio engineer and instructor Adam Olson, the lessons will give you a straightforward introduction to the industry-standard software with an emphasis on practical skills and real world results.
With a professionally produced visual presentation, you get to learn Pro Tools by seeing techniques done one step at a time. No need to get lost a book’s wordy descriptions when you can pause, repeat and rewind the real thing right from your own computer.

Virtual Instruments Done Right

What’s great about the instruments included in Pro Tools 8 is that they’re not limited demo versions of a bigger package or just something inserted to fill a menu screen. They’re usable instruments in their own right. Developed by the Advanced Instrument Research team at Digidesign, they provide a host of creative options that you are sure to use.
The Mini Grand is a full acoustic grand piano that lets you choose among seven different “models,” which are cleverly presented in terms of mood. It has built-in reverb and eight velocity layers for every key, giving it a pretty good range for “touch” on the digital medium. The GUI on this instrument is particularly attractive, as well.
Another fan favorite will be Boom, which is essentially a retro-style drum machine, with a pattern sequencer and ten preset kits that you can choose from (and a whole host of recommended samples based on tempo). It’s a flexible tool for many different types of electronic composition, but also a quick and dirty way to put together some dance beats.
Also included is the DB-33, which is Digidesign’s take on a Hammond B3 organ. It’s got over seventy presets to get you started and some impressive acoustic emulation that give a realistic impression of rotary speakers and old fashioned tubes. What’s more is that you can take its Leslie-style cabinet emulation and apply it to non-organ tracks, which is a neat little bonus that they didn’t have to include.
With retro in mind, the Vacuum instrument is a full featured analog-style synth. It is a menu-free monster that offers up the functions of a classic synth. Oscillators and knobs onscreen put pitch and distortion and modulation effects just a couple turns away. The final virtual instrument is an update of Xpand!, called Xpand2. With a simplified interface and double the patches available before, there’s another gig of options ready for you to try.
The Digidesign Pro Tools 8 Training Video walks you through each of these instruments and shows you how to incorporate them into an efficient workflow. Not only does the training make it easy for you to learn how to use Pro Tools, but it also shows you how to customize your workstation so that it suits your particular needs. AutoCAD 2010: Mastering 2D Concepts Training Video

This just in: a solid new AutoCAD 2010 Mastering 2D Concepts Training Video that you can watch online or buy on CD / DVD. Taught by Autodesk Approved Instructor (AAI) Shaun Bryant, it covers many of the new features included in the latest version but dedicates the bulk of the course to showing users how to use the software to master basic drawing, plotting and editing within the program interface. As every serious CAD project starts with drawing, this course is a smart, hands-on way to jump into the software.
While it’s extremely helpful for a beginner, the training incorporates the same modular approach that has been proven to work well in the past. Videos are split up by specific subjects, so more experienced users can skip around and review lessons in any order they want.

AutoCAD 2010: Better Work Through Better Communication

While it’s a well known workhorse for designers working one on one with their projects, AutoCAD has traditionally not performed as well as it should when it comes to collaboration. Finally, new features show that Autodesk engineers are taking steps in the right direction, helping users share drafts of their designs and receive feedback in new ways.

PDF Integration

One major item on wishlists for some time has been solid PDF support directly within AutoCAD. Finally, the calls have been answered. Export menus allow a variety of quality settings and advanced options, with the ability to export true-type fonts as text instead of graphics and image quality up to 600dpi for extremely precise renderings.
The new PDF support doesn’t stop at exporting, either. Users can now import PDF designs sent by others, with adjustments to show and hide layers and adjust the PDF layer transparency so that plans can be overlaid for tracing and comparison. Finally, it’s easy for users to share their diagrams and drafts in a compact and widely accessible file format.

DWG Format

The longstanding DWG file format has been updated to resolve common complaints and expand its range of capabilities. AutoCAD 2010 is fully backwards compatible, though, and can open older DWGs without a hitch. The format is practically an industry-recognized standard in and of itself, as it allows extremely complex creations to retain necessary information between different users and versions.

Advanced Rendering

Photorealistic imaging and effects means that what you design appears onscreen exactly as it will look once it reaches production. New and improved rendering technology allows clients and colleagues to see your ideas as they are meant to be seen and allows you to become more creative and effective in managing your own expectations.

With new access to collaborative possibilities, it’s all the more important that you understand the way AutoCAD works. The ability to easily share ideas and content with multiple people means it’s important that your project looks the way you want it to before you send it out, and this extensive 2D-focused training can give you the instruction you need to get your skills where they need to be.
