MOTU Digital Performer 6 Training Video

This multi-part MOTU Digital Performer 6 Training Video series is designed to give users a strong working knowledge of the powerful Mac audio sequencing software. Starting with the basics and covering advanced features and techniques in detail, even more experienced users can benefit from these visually based tutorials.

The course is perfect for beginners. Audio expert Sam McGuire provides a brief introduction to audio editing concepts, so first time users get a useful primer before they begin. The training then progresses gradually, first introducing the features and layout of the program’s redesigned user interface and discussing changes that MOTU has made. Users are then shown how to create a new project, and then learn how to bring their audio to life.

Because the training video lessons are divided by topic, it’s easy for more advanced users to skip around and use the videos as a quick reference. Every technique is shown in real time, with an active video feed of the program in use. The files used by the author are included, so the course is especially easy to follow.

The training videos are available online with the Apex Unlimited subscription or on CD / DVD as one convenient tutorial package.

Soundtracks and Scores Just the Way You Want Them

With all of the improvements introduced in version 6, there is no better program for composing scores for video, animation and film than Digital Performer.

One useful tool included with the program is the Find Tempo feature. When writing music to fit onscreen motion, it’s important that the score hits the right cue points. Digital Performer 6 allows you to set up a master list or import a cue sheet and then choose the type and degree of importance of each hit. Then the program analyzes the markers you’ve placed and recommends a tempo that will effectively match up with your cues.

Another big help for those who work directly with Digital Video is the incorporation of Firewire support. The DP6 Movie window will let you export your audio projects as a DV-format movie when paired with video and lets you output the movie over Firewire. This means that you can use a FireWire converter box or your DV Camera as a relay to a television or professional video monitor and see exactly how your soundtrack is going to fare onscreen.

These are just a couple of the powerful features packed into Digital Performer that set it apart. It also has new support for 23.976 and 30-drop frame rates and a full range of XML and compatibility enhancements for Apple’s Final Cut Pro that are unmatched.

This MOTU Digital Performer 6 Training Video includes a special section that shows users how to import and utilize video clips within the program. You’ll learn about streamers, punchers and flutters and find out more about the software’s integration with Final Cut. DP6 is a powerful tool capable of the most demanding professional audio work, and these instructional videos will help you learn how to use it.

QuarkXPress 8 Tutorial Video

This QuarkXPress 8 tutorial – training series will show you what you need to know to make better layouts in less time, whether you’re designing for print, digital documents, or the web.  The intuitive example-based instructional method will explain every major aspect of the Quark one step at a time, starting with the very basics and covering the application’s newest and most useful features.  Whether you’re just starting out using QuarkXPress or if you’ve had experience with desktop publishing software before, these modular video based lesson approach makes it easy to skip past tutorials for skills you already know and repeat those that require extra review.

Quark History

QuarkXPress was the hands down the most powerful and most popular tool for desktop publishing throughout the 1990s.  A staple product for printers, publishing houses, and design firms of all stripes, the program’s flexible support of fonts and its straightforward interface gained the software a near 90 percent market share.

Users gradually grew unhappy with the time it took Quark engineers to release significant upgrades and the high premium the company charged for its software.  After having its previous offering PageMaker trounced by QuarkXPress 4.1, Adobe designed a new solution from the ground up and launched rival product InDesign in 1999.  Quark made what has since been seen as a major misstep by failing to release a new version for the launch of Mac OS X, while Adobe had InDesign 2.0 ready in 2002 and brought out the first desktop publishing (DTP) tool for the new operating system.

This move by Adobe, combined with its subsequent combination of InDesign with graphics powerhouses Photoshop and Illustrator into the aggressively-priced Creative Suite, has all but eliminated the market position Quark once enjoyed.

Why It’s the Right Time for QuarkXPress

Turning a new page, Quark has come back with a slew of new features and lowered its prices to get back into the game.  Version 8 sees the program taking various features that came in previous incremental, optional upgrades and putting them into one powerful package, as well as introducing some new features to get designers’ attention.

Quark has first and foremost remodeled its user interface to fit the way today’s layout designers do their work.  Clearing the workspace of clutter by reducing the default number of tools on the screen by half, Quark made the interface more simplified without dumbing it down, because the tools it does have are given more functionality.  Support for drag-and-drop from Adobe’s Creative Suite and strong support for Photoshop and Illustrator files, advanced language and typography support, and the ability to export to HTML and Flash show Quark’s intent to deliver a compelling alternative to InDesign, both to reclaim users who have left and to hold onto the designers who never stopped using QuarkXPress.

The Right Training makes the differance

Of course, the powerful new features of QuarkXPress 8 are only as good as your ability to use them.  This QuarkXPress 8 tutorial video will show you everything you need to know to get the most out of your DTP projects.

FileMaker Server 10 Training Video

This unique FileMaker Server instructional video series breaks down the complex task of setting up and maintaining a free-standing server for FileMaker 10. Using the server-specific software combined with server-grade hardware allows you more performance, security, and reliability than running the regular client versions of FileMaker. If you’re managing large amounts of important data that many different machines need access to and you’re already using the cross-platform FileMaker framework, it’s a no-brainer.

In these videos, long-time FileMaker solutions developer and server-side database expert Wim Decorte draws from years of industry experience to break down the latest version of FileMaker Server into its most basic elements. With special video segments devoted specifically to explaining the program’s history and newest features, the course combines a proper understanding of the program with hands-on instruction in configuring and using the system on a day to day basis.

The training is divided into subject-specific video segments, making it easy for you to skip parts you’re familiar with or return to videos for review. Each lesson provides a real-time preview of the application in use, so that each technique presented appears on video exactly as it does on your own set-up. Special attention is specifically given to using command line functions and the remote access administration panel so that by the end of the training you’re familiar with multiple ways of controlling your database software.

FileMaker Server vs. FileMaker Pro

Many small businesses may be comfortable with just the client FileMaker product, but there are several important advantages to using a dedicated server. If you’re planning to expand the scope of your database-driven solutions or if you’re interested in getting the most performance and reliability from your system, these are some points to consider.

More concurrent users can connect to your databases and files at one time. Using FileMaker Pro, nine users can be connected at the same time, subject to the limits of your hardware. FileMaker Server supports 250 concurrent connections, and Server Advanced can handle 999.

FileMaker Server allows continuous access to your files, as well. To connect to a file using on the the client version, the hosting client must have FileMaker open and running on their machine, with the specific file open as well. FileMaker Server is designed to run in the background, however, and requires no extra effort on the part of a host. And when users are connected to your database, Server allows you to see who is currently accessing the files in its administration console, so you won’t accidentally disconnect someone in the middle of important work.

FileMaker Server 10 also features many enhancements geared specifically toward security and performance. Your specific business needs may very, but if you want and need the very top level of performance out of your FileMaker database solutions the answer is clear. The robust feature set of FileMaker Server combined with the professional training provided in these expert videos will give you everything you need for the best results. Beginner FileMaker Pro 10 Training Video

This expert-designed Beginner FileMaker Pro 10 Training Video series will introduce you to the newest and best features the program has to offer and help you build and maintain database and invoicing solutions that fit your professional needs.  Introductory videos will guide you through the program one step at a time in an examples-based, fundamentals-first training approach that ensures you progress through the course with confidence as you gradually build your skills.

Longtime script designer and certified FileMaker instructor John Mark Osborne breaks down the program’s basic usage into a series of short example-based instructional segments that are engaging and easy to understand.  Incorporated into each lesson is a live video feed of the application in use, so you can learn by being directly shown.  This visual method of instruction makes even advanced skills easier to learn and increases retention.

Another advantage of the video training format is its convenience.  Because the lessons are divided into shorter segments based on specific content, it’s easy to skip past videos on subjects you may already know about or review lessons that require a second look.  Full-featured controls within each video allow you to pause, rewind, and fast-forward as you desire, effectively allowing you to learn at your own pace.

FileMaker Pro 10 Advantage: Getting Started Quickly

In addition to other improvements, the engineers behind FileMaker have made the program better than ever at helping you get your first database solution off the ground.  The program offers an impressive set of pre-configured solutions and templates and features flexible import options for leveraging the data you already have on your computer.

Through the program’s “See it, Use it, Learn it” menu system, you can import data from such common documents as a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, text files, and basic databases made in Bento.  In fact, when importing data from Excel, you can use drag-and-drop functionality to place fields and objects where you’d like.  Exporting back to Excel is even easier with the new “Excel Maker” tool.  Older FileMaker files dating back to version 7 are also seamless to work with, making the upgrade to 10 as painless as possible.

In addition, 30 common customizable database templates are included as Starter Solutions for new users.  Whether you’re managing people, projects, or assets, there are ready-to-use database set-ups for Personnel Records, Time Cards, Student Records, Event Management, Research Notes, Recipes, and many more popular tasks.

Although quite helpful, these out-of-the-box solutions won’t work perfectly for every situation. Having a proper understanding of the way FileMaker works makes designing your own solutions relatively easy.  The powerful training included in this instructional video series not only shows you how to design your own database and frameworks but also how to modify what you have to make it work for you.  FileMaker Pro 10 is an extremely capable program, but it’s only as powerful as your ability to use it. Serious Possibilities with Anime Studio Pro
Although its title may bring to mind Japanese-style cartoons, this program can be used for so much more.  Because of its ease of use, it’s often thought of as just a great tool for beginners and animation hobbyists, but it also has applications in professional design workflows.  Mike Clifton, the software engineer who almost single-handedly built the software from scratch, has made sure that his program plays nice with other industry-leading design programs so that it fits right in a professional’s arsenal.
The program’s user interface is unique to the application but similar enough that experienced designers should have no problem getting to work.  Anyone who has worked with Premiere, Toon Boom, or 3DS Max will find the layout and tools familiar and intuitive.  Getting started with a program has never been easier.
Import many major file formats.  Anime Studio Pro 5 will let you import and work with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator files, and lets you turn JPEG, Targa, GIF, BMP and EPS images into animated reality with bone-tool overlays.  The program is smart enough to recognize the layers and effects you’ve spent so much time on.
There’s an array of solid options for exporting your creations, too.  AVI, Quicktime, and Flash SWF are all acceptable formats for moving your work to the next step of processing or publishing your completed animations across the internet.
Right out of the box, Anime Studio Pro 5 beats all competition in its price range and gives more expensive programs a run for their money.  Extensible scripting features make the potential for the application even greater.
As with any other serious tool, the program is only as powerful as your ability to use it.  This training video series will make sure that you’ll spend less time tinkering within application menus to find hidden features and more time making great content instead. Powerful Features and Solutions
Microsoft Project 2007 has the tools and features to manage your next big project, with everything you need to effectively budget resources, create task lists, make adjustments to project plans, track the progress of your projects, and share information with your colleagues and clients.

The Advantage of MS Project 2007
Improved tracking and presentation of schedules.  The new Task Drivers feature lets you set prerequisites and constraints on resources for pending tasks, and when changes in resources cause delays, you can easily trace back the causes of problems in your critical paths with clear color-coded indicators.
The new ability to reverse and re-do changes also allows you to play out what-if scenarios, letting you see how potential changes and adjustments could affect your future and past project results.

Better control over costs. The ability to assign specific budgets and customized costs (independent of work time) allow for more complete real-world accounting practices and also allow better interactivity with independent accounting systems.

Communicate more effectively.  Several predefined reports cover the most commonly used forms for communicating within your team, and the addition of cell-highlighting allows you to color-code information for visually effective organization.  Compelling charts and diagrams are also now just a few clicks away with special integration for Microsoft Excel and Visio users as well as the built-in Visual Reports feature.

Get started right away.  MS Project 2007 offers a Project Guide that takes you step by step through the process of project management, letting you put the program to use as you’re learning its features.  Included project templates give you a number of ready-to-use solutions that fit common programs and tasks, and Microsoft provides even more on their website.  Templates can be shared with other users even through email, so you can make sure that your teams are literally on the same page.  You can even build your own templates suited to your own needs so that you don’t have to reinvent the wheel every time you have a new project to do.

Putting the New Features to Work

Photoshop Elements Tutorial

Title Adobe Photoshop Elements
Author: Phil Hawkins
Duration: 100 Lessons – 6 Hours
Covers: Version 6
Free Demo: Photoshop Elements Tutorial

 About this Tutorial
This Adobe Elements tutorial will give you the knowledge and creative skills to exploit Adobe Elements and create images that will astound. This training video starts with a brief overview of the program interface after which it devotes an entire chapter on importing photographs from a digital camera, a subject that most tutorials only cover briefly if at all, once the fundamentals of importing images has been covered the lessons take on a practical approach, the subjects covered are not limited to just Photoshop Elements, but appertain to digital imagery in general. Learn how to: color correct an image, enhance color and tones, correct skin tones, fix scratches, restore old photographs, remove color casts and so much more, by the end of this Photoshop Elements tutorial you will be able to do all this and a whole lot more too.
About Photoshop Elements
Photoshop Elements is sold at a fraction of the cost of the full version and retains about 90% of the features that are commonly used by image professionals. Photoshop  Elements can comfortable accommodate the web designer or photographic enthusiast with more features then they will ever need. So unless you are in the upper 2% of the worlds photographic / digital imagery elite, the chances are Photoshop Elements will serve you just fine, of course some people just like the status that purchasing expensive software brings, maybe they somehow think that high-end software will compensate for their own lack of ability or knowledge, of course it won’t, if any thing it will make it worse.

If your on a budget and $600+ seems a lot of moolah to splash out on the full version of Photoshop, have a rethink, particularly if buying the full blown version will leave you with no funds left to learn how to use it, better to buy the lighter version and understand how to leverage all the functionality, than to buy the full version and sit staring at a blank screen trying to get it to do something remotely creative.

My humble option, for what its worth
If you simply want to import digital images, correct or edit them and then straight print or post them to the web, Photoshop Elements is fine, if you intend to take professional photographs and apply complex color adjustments and corrections and output them to a high-end printer then Elements is not going to accommodate your needs.

Adobe CS4 – To Expensive for the Brits

Adobe CS4 – To Expensive for the Brits
Yes the CS4 rip off is to be rolled out again. Do I mean the software is not worth the money, well that depends on which side of the Atlantic you’re on, our air-conditioned cousins across the pond can buy the full CS4 suite for a £1,000 less, yes you read that correctly. Adobe pulled this stunt last year and boy did they get flack for it, but I guess they made enough money to put up with the grief and do it again. In the USA the price is fixed at $2,499 while customers in the UK are charged a premium of £2,313,58.

A spokesman for Adobe cited operational costs between the USA and the UK, and in part this is true, running a company in the USA is cheaper than the UK granted, but being asked to pay a whopping £1,000 extra, which is a 70% increase on the cost in the USA, THAT HURTS.

Fortunately in this digital world that we live you don’t have to put up with it, and circumnavigating it is easy, let me enlighten you how.

Most people have an Amazon account, just visit Amazon.com and make the purchase, here comes the problem, the shipping, Amazon will ship it with the big fat invoice on the top of the box and the shipping filled out with the full amount, your going to get slapped on the duty, and being a law abiding person I have to say you should do it this way, however some people would visit :http://www.usamail1.com/index.php?ref=209 set up an account, purchase it from Amazon USA, sending to their forwarding mail box  and have them re-box it and re-ship it less the invoice.

I am not saying that you should exercise your right to shop overseas and deprive these huge companies of their revenue, but you should be free to shop around.
